Stef Duffy is a surrealist artist working in painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics.
Working in a series format, concepts are initially explored in drawings working with live models and photographic references. Classical painting and sculpting techniques are manipulated in the surreal utilizing satire and provocation as tools of investigation. The work is a examination of false ego and the comedic antagonism between secular vs spiritual, feminine vs masculine, commerce vs spirituality, and violence vs intimacy. In nearly every series, the subject is under some sort of stress, recognition, or surveillance, and the viewer is cast as juror, witness or spy.
Stef lives in New York and works from his studio in Jersey City at Mana Contemporary.
Studio visits are available upon request of the gallery.
